Giorgi Kwilitaia ( Georgian გიორგი ქვილითაია ; born October 1, 1993 in Abasha ) is a Georgian football player on the position of a striker .

Club career

Career start at home

Giorgi Kwilitaia was born on October 1, 1993 in the Georgian town of Abascha in the Mingrelia and Upper Svaneti region and began his career in men's football with the lower-class capital club Sasco Tbilisi . For the club from the Meore League , the third highest division in Georgian football, he completed various games before he was promoted to the Georgian second division in the 2011/12 season . In this he ran for the team in 16 league games, in which he contributed 22 hits. In the final standings, Sasco Tiflis was third behind the second team from Dinamo Tiflis (runner-up) and FC Guria Lantschchuti (champions). With his 22 goals he was by far the top scorer of his team; the second best shooter from Sasco Tiflis, Tornike Mogeladse , scored nine goals. Nevertheless, he failed in the fight for the title of top scorer at Giwi "Giga" Kwerentschchiladze of master Guria Lantschchuti, who scored 23 goals in his 28 championship appearances.

Change to Hungary

His achievements in the Georgian third division did not go unnoticed in Europe, which resulted in a short-lived engagement with the Hungarian first division club Győri ETO FC . In this he was used for the first time on March 9, 2013 in a 2-1 home win over BFC Siófok , when coach Attila Pintér brought him onto the pitch from the 83rd minute of play for the Estonian international Tarmo Kink . At the end of the 2012/13 season Pintér used him again as a substitute in a 1-1 away draw against Honvéd Budapest . At the end of the season the Georgian who, among other things for a mission and a goal in was Ligakupa had brought, Hungarian with the team champion. In the Hungarian Football Cup 2012/13 Kwilitaia was not used; However, his team reached the final, which was lost 1: 2 against Debreceni Vasutas SC . In this encounter he was also unused on the bench in the Hungarian Cup for the first time. In addition, the tall attacking player was also used for the second combat team of Győri ETO FC with play in Nemzeti Bajnokság II , the second highest Hungarian football league, with a record of six league appearances, one goal and one assistant. With the team he reached only a 14th place in the final classification of the western group of the two-track second division and relegated with the team to the Hungarian third division .

As a loan player to Georgia and return to Hungary

After his time in Hungary was successful, but not particularly effective for him, he returned to his home country at the beginning of the 2013/14 season and joined the first division club FC Dila Gori as a loan player . There he made his debut on September 13, 2013 under coach Giorgi Dewdariani when he came on the lawn in the 0-2 away defeat against FC Sestaponi in the 71st minute for Giorgi Aburdschania . During the season he started seven times, was substituted on eleven times and was unused on the bench in 13 championship games. Although his league appearances were rather unlikely, he had a record of six goals, two of which were doubles. While he only celebrated modest performances with the team in the league, he made it with the team in the Georgian Football Cup 2013/14 to make it to the semi-finals, where they lost to the eventual cup winners with a total score of 2: 5 from the two legs. In the cup competition, Kwilitaia made three appearances in which he himself remained goalless. He also played a game for Dila Gori's second team in the second division , scoring all four of his team's goals in the 4-3 away win over Lokomotiv Tbilisi . His achievements made him the first to attract the attention of the Georgian Football Association , which was followed by appearances in the U-21 national team in his home country .

After this more or less successful season at home, Giorgi Kwilitaia returned to his home club Győri ETO FC in summer 2014. There he could still not convince and was used by Ferenc Horváth , the briefly acting interim coach Tibor Tokody and his successor Vasile Miriuță only rarely and certainly not over the full game. By the end of the 2014/15 season , the Georgian attacking player had only made eleven appearances in the championship, as well as one goal and one assist, and was eighth with the team. Due to licensing problems, the club, like some other clubs, had to relegate, whereupon a large part of the squad, as well as the coaching staff, left the club. Kwilitaia also played in the 2014/15 Hungarian Football Cup this season , where he and his team were eliminated from the current tournament in the round of 16 against local rivals Gyirmót SE . For him personally, however, the league cup 2014/15 was more successful , in which he scored nine goals in four appearances, but was eliminated with the team in the round of 16 against Szigetszentmiklósi TK .

Further successes with Dinamo Tbilisi

After the licensing problems at Győri ETO FC, he left with most of the squad and returned to his home country, where he signed on with the record champions Dinamo Tbilisi . At the capital club he made his competitive debut in the first round qualifier for the Europa League 2015/16 against FK Qəbələ from Azerbaijan , when he played under coach George Geguchadze from the start and was replaced in the 62nd minute for veteran Aleksandre Iaschwili . After he was used in the return leg over 74 minutes a week later, but was eliminated with the team from the current qualification, he made his league debut for Dinamo Tbilisi a little over a month later. Here the center forward was used in the 4-0 home win over the Sapovnela Terdschola for the full game, but remained goalless himself. This changed in the following games, where after the first five rounds he had already achieved as many hits and two assists. Subsequently, he advanced to a strong attacking and goal-scoring player in the attack line of Dinamo Tiflis, where he was often supported on the offensive by the dangerous midfielder Dschaba Dschighauri . By the end of the 2015/16 season he was used in 29 of 30 possible league games, he missed only one game due to injury and scored 24 goals, including two hat tricks and three doubles. With his 24 goals, he was the top scorer in front of veteran Otar Marzwaladze , the hanging top of FC Dila Gori , who scored 19 goals. In the final ranking of the Georgian first class, he led the table with Dinamo Tiflis with 13 points ahead of FC Samtredia and thus became Georgian champions with the team.

Also in the Georgian Football Cup 2015/16 , Kwilitaia was used in all other matches from the first leg of the last 16 and drove with the team, except for the semi-final first leg, in which they won 3-0, only narrow wins. In the end, the team made it to the final, which was won 1-0 over Sioni Bolnisi on May 18, 2016 . In his seven cup appearances, the center forward was successful as a goal scorer in five consecutive games and also contributed a goal assist in the semi-final second leg and was thus involved in both goals of his team in the 2-1 away win over Tschichura Satschchere . Early in the 2015/16 season, he also played the Georgian Supercup game against the then reigning champions FC Dila Gori at the end of August , with the capital city team also emerging as winners with a 1-0 win. Immediately after his successful first division season 2015/16 he was called up by the still fresh Georgian national coach Vladimír Weiss into the national team of his home country , for which he also made his debut a little later. The successes in the Umaghlessi League did not go unnoticed in European football either and the 22-year-old was courted by top international clubs during the current season. Among other things, the Turkish first division side Trabzonspor was interested in the Georgian offensive talent at the beginning of April . After the championship ended, he was also courted by 1. FC Kaiserslautern , Karlsruher SC , Dynamo Kiev , BATE Baryssau and Eintracht Braunschweig . At the end of July 2016, the Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Wien announced that they were courting the Georgian team striker.

In July 2016, Kwilitaia played two games in the second qualifying round for the 2016/17 Champions League against FC Alaschkert Martuni from Armenia . He scored the 2-0 win in the first leg with a penalty and came with the team after a 1-1 draw in the second leg when he was also on the field in the next qualifying round, in which he was unable to attend at the end of July 2016 due to an injury.

Change to Austria

In August 2016 he moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Wien , with whom he received a contract valid until June 2020. He played his first game for Vienna on September 15, 2016 in the Europa League in a 3-2 win over Belgian club KRC Genk . In that game, he was brought into play in the 87th minute for Brazilian Joelinton . He made his Bundesliga debut three days later . Against SV Mattersburg , he came into play again in the closing stages from the bench. Kwilitaia scored his first goal for Rapid in October 2016 in the second round of the Cup against FC Blau-Weiß Linz . He scored his first double in the green-white dress in December 2016 in a 3-1 win over SV Ried .

Change to Belgium

In July 2018, Kwilitaia moved to Belgium to KAA Gent , where he received a contract that ran until June 2022. As a result of a broken foot, he could not play from May 2018 (still at SK Radid Vienna) until the end of 2018.

National team career

Kwilitaia made his first appearances in a junior national team in his home country in 2013, when he was brought into the Georgian U-21 national team by Aleksandre Tschiwadze shortly after his 20th birthday . Under the U-21 national coach, he took part in the qualification for the U-21 European Championship 2015 in mid-October and mid-November 2013 and made his debut after being unused on the bench four days earlier in the first group match against the Netherlands on October 14 in a 2-1 victory over Scotland . Here was the young center forward from the start, in use, the assist of to controlled after 39 minutes Valeri Kasaischwilis 1: 0 lead hits when was in 63 minutes with a yellow card warned and in 78 minutes of Giorgi Pantsulaia replaced . After two further U-21 European Championship qualifications in November 2013, he completed his fourth and last U-21 international match at the beginning of September 2014; this also in the same European Championship qualification. The team then dropped out in the group stage of qualification and thus failed to participate in the European Championship finals the following year .

After that, the young attacking player was quiet for almost a year and a half before he was called up in the spring of 2016 by the new Georgian national coach Vladimír Weiss for his debut game against Kazakhstan in the national team of his home country . However, Kwilitaia did not make his A-team debut and had to wait almost three months before he was brought back to the national team at the end of May and played for the first time over half a game against Slovakia on May 27, 2016 at a training camp in Wels . He was also used briefly in early June in the two friendlies against Romania in Bucharest and Spain in Madrid .

Kwilitaia scored his first two goals in the Georgian national dress in March 2017 when he scored 2-0 and 3-0 in a 5-0 win in a friendly against Latvia .
