Aleksandre Gabrielis dze Tschiwadze ( Georgian ალექსანდრე გაბრიელის ძე ჩივაძე ; Russian Александр Габриэлович Чивадзе ; born April 8, 1955 in Karachayevsk ) is a former Georgian-Soviet football player and coach .

life and career

Chivadze played for Dinamo Tbilisi throughout his playing career from 1974 to 1987 . In 1978 the defender became the Soviet champion with his team and in 1976 and 1979 he also won the Soviet Cup with the team . In 1980 he was voted Soviet Footballer of the Year . In the 1980/1981 season he won the European Cup Winners' Cup as team captain with Dinamo Tbilisi .

Tschivadze played 46 times for the Soviet national team and scored three goals. He won the bronze medal at the soccer tournament of the 1980 Olympic Games and took part in the 1982 World Cup in Spain and in 1986 in the World Cup in Mexico .

After his active career, Tschivadze was national coach of the Georgian national soccer team from 1993 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2003 . He was also in charge of the Georgian U-21 national team between 2012 and 2016 before being replaced by George Geguchadze in January 2016 .
