Vladimir Gawrilowitsch Guzajew ( Georgian ვლადიმერ გუცაევი ; Russian Владимир Гаврилович Гуцаев ; born December 21, 1952 in Tbilisi ) is a former Georgian football player and coach of Ossetian descent. From 2004 to 2008 he was also a member of the Georgian parliament .

life and career

Vladimir Guzajew was born in 1952 into an Ossetian family in Tbilisi. His mother tongue is Russian, but Guzayev also speaks Georgian. He came to football through various smaller Tbilisi clubs until he finally moved to the big Dinamo Tiflis club in 1971 . The striker gained a permanent position there and should stay with his new club until the end of his career. In 1978 Guzajew became Soviet football champions with Dinamo, and in 1981 they even won the European Cup Winners' Cup when they defeated FC Carl Zeiss Jena 2-1 in the final. In addition, Guzajew was part of the Soviet national team , for which he completed a total of eleven games between 1972 and 1982.

In 1986 he played for Dinamo Tbilisi for the last time, and then went on to become a coach. From 1987 to 1990 he worked as a functionary at Iberia Tiflis , in 1991 he switched to the Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta , first as an assistant coach and later as head coach , where he stayed until 1994. He then moved to the Russian club Alania Wladikawkas (then still Spartak-Alania Wladikawkas ), where he stayed until 1995. In 1996 he coached the U21 team of Georgia, from 1997 to 1999 finally also the senior national team. From 1999 to 2000 he went back to Alania Wladikawkas. His last position was in 2001 as a trainer for Torpedo Kutaisi .

He then went into politics and sat from 2004 to 2008 for the ruling party United National Movement of Mikheil Saakashvili in the Georgian parliament. In July 2004, Eduard Kokoity , then President of South Ossetia , was in charge of Guzayev, who had offered him 20 million US dollars for a "loyalty" to Georgia on behalf of Mikheil Saakashvili. Guzayev denied the allegations, saying that he had only asked Kokoity to allow a South Ossetian team to participate in the Georgian football championship.

In 2010 he returned to football and was coach of the Georgian U19 national team and from 2011 youth coach at WIT Georgia Tbilisi . In October 2012, the Russian club Alania Wladikawkas announced the engagement of Guzajew as sports director.
