The moated castle Lautereck , also called Teusser-Schlösschen , is a moated castle in the Löwenstein district of Teusserbad .

location

The castle stands in a lake fed by the Teusser spring in the upper Sulm valley below the town of Löwenstein.

history

The Teusserquelle was perhaps as already in Germanic times Weihbrunnen known, but only since the Peasants' War in 1525 the use of the source and buildings located there are actually occupied. The spring was already used for spa treatments in the 16th century, and fish was also farmed in the lakes it fed. In the late 19th century, the bottling of soda from the Teusser spring began, while the bathing and spa operations ended in the 1930s.

The castle was first mentioned in 1623, when Count Friedrich Ludwig from Löwenstein had a summer castle in a lake of the spa facilities repaired. The half-timbered beams were rotten, so that it can be assumed that they were older when they were first mentioned. With the repair work of 1623, the castle already got its present shape. After 1730 it was part of the health resort in Teusserbad and had guest rooms for illustrious guests as well as its own boiler for warm baths. In 1801 it was then in need of renovation and no longer part of the spa business. In 1822 the castle was renovated by Prince Georg von Löwenstein and in 1823 "English facilities" were set up. The Teusserbad was to be sold in 1835; in a “description of realities” the “s. G. Badschlößchen ”mentioned, which contains“ 11 Pieces ”. In the end, it was only sold to the Heilbronn citizen Julius Rauth with the decline of the bathing business in 1861, including the bathing facilities. This soon separated from the bathing facilities, but kept the castle.

The winding structure now belongs to the owner of Teusser Mineralbrunnen GmbH.

On New Year's Day 2009, a smoldering fire in the castle, which was probably triggered by the heat from the fireplace that had spread to the ceiling, claimed an injured person.

Literary mentions

The Heilbronn doctor Dietrich Christoph Scharff wrote a detailed description of the bathing establishment in Teusserbad, which was renovated from 1730, and also gave a description of the castle that was then part of the health resort, which had guest rooms for illustrious guests and had its own heating boiler. In 1834, Carl Julius Weber described the so-called Badeschlößchen as “such a strange old building as the Palatinate in the Rhine , a true paradox about which nobody could give me information.” The Morgenblatt for educated readers of March 26, 1839 also contains - in a series by Villeggiatur in Weinsberg  - a mention of the castle: “We steered into the gorge on the right, where in the forest night a gothic, unfortunately pink-whitewashed hunting castle lies on the foul-smelling lake and the Theusserbad, which looks gloomy in autumn, is not a friendly one Buildings, but fresh springs and attractive forest areas. "
