Ehrenberg Castle

The Ehrenberg Castle is a Outbound castle and was one of three medieval castles in Talheim in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg .

history

In Talheim, whose possessions were divided among various Ganerbe shares in the Middle Ages , there were once three castles in the High Middle Ages: the Upper Castle directly north above the village and a little further northwest on a promontory above the Schozach Valley, the Lower Castle and the Ehrenberg Castle.

Ehrenberg Castle was owned by the Lords of Klingenberg , and the castle loan included a larger estate. Before 1411, the facility came into his possession through Anna von Klingenberg's second wedding with Seyfried Osterbrunn von Riexingen .

When and why the castle was destroyed or abandoned is unknown. The castle is said to have been abandoned in 1550, but the masonry was still preserved. In the 17th century the ruins served as a quarry. In the 18th century, when the neighboring Lower Castle was rebuilt, the last castle relics were removed, and their castle stables were incorporated into the Lower Castle's park. The goods belonging to the castle loan later came into the possession of the Württemberg care in Heilbronn and formed the basis of today's Ehrenberg castle estate in Talheim.
