Per Krafft the younger
Per Krafft the Younger (born November 1, 1777 in Stockholm ; † November 12, 1863 there ) was a Swedish painter , draftsman and lithographer who was best known as a portrait painter .
Life
His father was Per Krafft the Elder († 1793). At the age of six he began training at the Kungliga Konstakademien in 1783 . From 1796 to 1799 he studied in Paris under Jacques-Louis David ; then he stayed in Italy for five years . In 1805 Krafft was appointed court painter , and in 1807 he was appointed vice professor at the Kungliga Konstakademien. From 1818 to 1856 he was professor of drawing there .
Krafft painted more than 400 portraits and about a hundred other pictures, including battle and history paintings . His style is considered realistic .
He was married to the painter Brita Sofia Robsahm (1784-1854).
