Castle in Babstadt

The castle in Babstadt , a district of Bad Rappenau in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg , was built around 1900 instead of a previous building and is therefore one of the youngest castles in the district.

history

The previous structure was built in 1712 by Adolf von Kimming, who owned the place at the time. In 1732 the lords of Gemmingen bought the place and castle. By Ernst von Gemmingen-Hornberg (1851-1928) of Stuttgart architect was from 1898 to 1911 according to plans Carl Weigle the present castle while maintaining the baroque portal of the previous building erected.

After the First World War, the castle was inhabited by Ernst von Gemmingen-Hornberg and his family. Son Eberhard (1883–1952) lived there with his wife Hertha von Degenfeld (1894–1963) until the end of the Second World War. When the Americans occupied the castle in 1945, the couple moved to nearby Neuhaus Castle , which Hertha von Degenfeld had inherited in the 1920s.

In the 1980s and 1990s, a gallery was housed in the castle before the building was extensively renovated and has since served as the residence of the builders' heirs again.
