The Grecken Castle , and Schloss also around 1700 or Zwingenberg called, is one erected in 1600 manor of Grecken of Kochendorf. Kochendorf is a district of Bad Friedrichshall in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg . The main building has been used as a school for some time.

history

After Wolf Conrad Greck I († 1598) had divided the estate, the most significant share of ownership in Kochendorf, an imperial fief with the Lehen Castle , which was renovated in 1553 , fell to the eldest son Johann Philipp Greck, while the other two thirds of the place fell to the younger brothers Wolf Conrad Greck II. And Walther Greck were raffled. Wolf Conrad II received a. a. the Lindenberg east of the church, on which he had a manor built over a period of three years, probably from 1599 to 1602, as a slave labor . The actual two-wing castle building is located on the ridge, while two courtyards (castle courtyard and Meiereihof) extend to the west over the slope to the church. To the east, the facility is separated from the Lindenberg by a ditch. Behind it was once a tournament ground.

The compulsory labor required for the construction of the palace aroused the displeasure of the subjects, whose complaints reached the Reich Chamber of Commerce. No verdict is known of this, but in 1604 there was a contract between local lords and subjects in which both parties undertook to settle the dispute. The castle was damaged in the Thirty Years War and then renewed in 1681. Later, the building, like the rest of the village, came into the possession of the knightly canton of Odenwald , who set up a law firm and a school there.

In 1829/30 the castle passed into private hands. At times it housed a cigar factory and later a liqueur factory, and the castle was also a school and residential building. The Greckenschloss was named Monument of the Month for October 2005 by the Baden-Württemberg Monument Foundation. From 2004 to 2010 it was extensively renovated and has since been used by the Kochendorf elementary school, a music school and a painting school.
