The Daknam Stadium is a football stadium in the Belgian city of Lokeren , in the Flemish province of East Flanders . The name of the sports facility is derived from the location. Daknam is a district of Lokeren. Until 2014, the sports facility consisted of two grandstands along the playing field and a back-end grandstand. On the open side was a wall with billboards.

history

The stadium has been rebuilt a few times; the first time in 1974. In the mid-1970s, the facility offered 18,000 places. On August 4, 1986, a violent thunderstorm with squalls pulled over the stadium and covered more than half of the metal roof of the east stand. Between 2000 and 2003 the stadium was completely renovated. In the summer of 2005, the fences in front of the stands were removed.

There was also a new playing area in the stadium. A mixture of natural grass and more than 20 million artificial grass fibers forms the new green. After the lawn was dressed; the synthetic fibers were placed twenty centimeters deep in the ground with two special machines. Over time, the grass roots with the fibers and forms a dense play area. This type of artificial turf has been used for B. in White Hart Lane (Tottenham), Anfield (Liverpool), Stade Louis II (Monaco), Telia Parken (Copenhagen) or De Kuip (Rotterdam).

In 2014, the gap in the grandstand behind the gate in the south was closed with a new building. The 72 meter long, 22 meter wide and 16 meter high grandstand is roofed and offers 2,953 seats. This increases the available space in the Daknam Stadium from around 9,560 to 12,000. On August 3, 2014, the first home game of the Jupiler Pro League 2014/15 against SV Zulte Waregem (2: 1) took place with the new grandstand. In addition to the construction of the grandstands, the power of the floodlights was increased from 1,200 to 1,500 lux and a new guest area with 350 uncovered seats was created.
