The park ( German  [the] park ; since July 2014 due to a name sponsorship officially Telia Parken ), from 1911 to 1990 Københavns Idrætspark ( German  Copenhagen Sports Park ) and in the German-speaking area also Parken Stadium , is a football stadium with a lockable roof in the Danish Capital Copenhagen . It is the largest stadium in the country and the national stadium . Both the Danish national football team and FC Copenhagen use the sports facility at Fælledparken in the Østerbro district , which was completed in 1992, for their home games. Various other events also take place there.

history

Københavns Idrætspark

The history of the stadium began on May 25, 1911. On this day, the Københavns Idrætspark ( German  Copenhagen Sports Park ) was inaugurated. A team from Kjøbenhavns Boldklub and B.93 Copenhagen played against Sheffield Wednesday (2: 3) from England at the opening . Even back then, it served as a venue for the national soccer team. From 1955 to 1990 the final of the Danish Cup took place in Idrætspark. It had a capacity of up to 52,377 spectators; which mostly found standing room in the stadium. The last international match ( qualification for the European Championship 1992 ) took place on November 14, 1990 between Denmark and Yugoslavia (0-2) in the stadium. The stadium was then rebuilt.

Park

On September 9, 1992, the stadium was reopened under the name Parken with the friendly game Denmark against Germany (1: 2). The stadium offers 38,065 seats on its four individual stands. Up to 55,000 seats are available for concerts, e.g. B. at a Justin Timberlake concert on June 23, 2007.

Just in time for the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 on May 12th, the foldable textile roof of the venue was completed. It consists of twelve textile membrane cushions, each 92 × 7 meters. The membrane cushions on a steel framework construction are inflated with special fans when the roof is closed. It has an area of ​​8000 square meters. The roof can be opened or closed within 30 minutes and the interior can be fully heated and air-conditioned. The playing field consists of a natural turf with woven artificial turf fibers in order to be able to withstand the heavy use of the field by the events.

In 2009 the stadium received a new north stand with 4,000 VIP seats. After the old grandstand was demolished, a temporary outer wall was erected so that the stadium could continue to be used. The lower part of the grandstand can be moved forwards and backwards to create more space in the interior.

There are large halls in the stadium that can be rented for conferences, banquets or other celebrations. The official fan shop of FC Copenhagen called FC København MegaStore is also located in the stadium.

Concerts

Parking has been a regular venue for concerts since it opened. The Danish band Volbeat set the attendance record on August 26, 2017 when they played in front of over 48,250 spectators. The concert was made for the DVD Let's Boogie! Live from Telia Parken recorded.

Other Events

So far, two European Cup finals have been played in the Copenhagen stadium. In 1994, Arsenal London and AC Parma (1-0) met in the final of the European Cup . In 2000, Galatasaray Istanbul beat Arsenal London 4-1 on penalties in the UEFA Cup final. Due to the lack of space, however, UEFA Champions League finals cannot take place there. It has been the venue for the Danish Cup final since 1993 .

On October 13, 2001 the Dane Brian Nielsen boxed against Mike Tyson and on October 15, 2006 a big boxing night with the fight between Mikkel Kessler and the German Markus Beyer took place in front of 20,000 spectators in the closed arena. From 2003 to 2014 the stadium hosted a single speedway world championship, which then took place in 2015 in the CASA Arena Horsens . The tennis tournament Royal Copenhagen Cup 2002 took place in the park.

The record number of visitors at an international match ( qualification for the 2006 World Cup ) was set up on October 8, 2005 in the match against Greece with 42,099 visitors. In a game of club teams, the record number is 41,641 spectators at the cup final on May 21, 1998 between Brøndby IF and FC Copenhagen.

On June 2, 2007, there was a special incident in the qualifying match for the Euro 2008 between Denmark and Sweden . After a 3-0 lead by Sweden, Denmark equalized in the 75th minute. In the 89th minute, a Danish fan stormed the pitch after referee Herbert Fandel had sent the Danish player Christian Poulsen off. He had punched the Swede Markus Rosenberg in the stomach with his fist in the penalty area. There was also a penalty for Sweden. The fan then attacked Fandel physically and the referee stopped the game. Afterwards the game was rated 3-0 for Sweden, Poulsen got three games suspension. The Danish association DBU had to pay a fine of 50,000 Swiss francs and played the next two games at least 140 kilometers from Copenhagen.

FC Nordsjælland , who qualified for the Champions League through the 2012 championship , also played their three group home games in the park. Here you scored a 1-1 against Juventus Turin and two defeats against Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk .

Parking was one of six venues for the 2013 European Men's Volleyball Championship , which was held in Denmark ( Copenhagen , Odense , Aarhus , Herning ) and Poland ( Gdynia , Danzig / Sopot ). The two semi-finals and the finals took place in the park.

The stadium has been selected by UEFA as one of 12 venues across Europe for the 2021 European Football Championship . A total of three group matches as well as a round of 16 will take place in Parking:
