ImageShack [ ɪmɪdʒˈʃæk ] is a chargeable share host for image files .

The service, which was launched in November 2003, was initially financed exclusively through advertising. As part of a restructuring at the beginning of 2014, the provider rejected the support of other file formats and from now on always requires users to register for a fee in order to be able to upload images.

overview

Users with an active, paid account can view images on the web space by ImageShack upload to them on the Internet by means of an automatically generated URL to link and retrieve online. Restrictions for images are a file size of a maximum of 25 megabytes , as well as the image formats JPEG , PNG , GIF , BMP or TIFF , whereby all images to be retrieved are converted into JPG format. Users can organize their pictures in a gallery (photo album) and delete them again.

Since the revision in early 2014, free user accounts are no longer offered, previously uploaded images have been deleted and replaced by image hack advertising if they are over the limit of 500 images. Only premium members (annual fee from $ 20) can continue to upload images after a 30-day free trial membership. Support for videos and uploading of open source software has also been discontinued .

Duration of storage

Image files uploaded by registered users with an intact user account never expire. Files from unregistered users were automatically deleted if they were not accessed once in 365 days. Images that do not conform to ImageShack's guidelines , e.g. B. Pornography and copyrighted material will be deleted immediately. Until the beginning of 2012 there were no restrictions on the number of files uploaded or the storage space used. Since March 1, 2012, a free “basic account” could only save 500 images. If you have saved a larger number on the first of a month with such a user account, the 500 most recent pictures will be kept and the rest will be automatically deleted. The use of a paid account includes unlimited storage.
