The Het Diekman stadium was the football stadium of the Dutch football club FC Twente Enschede from 1965 to 1998 . Then the club moved to what was then the Arke Stadium .
history
In 1953 the stadium in Enschede was built at a cost of three million guilders . The stadium was initially used by the Enschede sports club . The stadium was opened on August 8, 1956 with a game against Preußen Münster in front of 22,000 spectators.
In 1965 the sports club Enschede and the Enschedese Boys merged to form FC Twente, which used the stadium in the following years. On April 22, 1998, the last game of FC Twente was held in the stadium against SC Heerenveen .

When it opened, the stadium had a capacity of 5,500 seats and 19,000 standing places. Due to the stricter regulations of UEFA and the Dutch association, the capacity was initially limited to 18,000 and later 13,500 spectators.
