Jelle Vossen (born March 22, 1989 in Bilzen ) is a Belgian football player and is currently under contract with the Belgian first division SV Zulte Waregem . He is the son of the former Belgian national player Rudi Vossen . He is a trained midfielder, but can be used in the offensive area in any position.
Career
Jelle Vossen started playing football at his local club JB Eigenbilzen and came to KRC Genk via KSK Tongeren . At the age of 17 he made his debut in the Jupiler League and scored his first competitive goal for the Genkies against KSV Roeselare . For the 2009/10 season he was awarded to league competitor Cercle Bruges , where he was able to score two goals in the first match. After appearing as team captain in an encounter in 2011/12, he has been the official captain of KRC Genk since the 2012/13 season.
In 2014 and 2015 he played in England for Middlesbrough FC and Burnley FC before returning to his home country for Bruges for the 2015/16 season . In the next four seasons he came there to 139 competitive appearances in all competitions. Under the new coach Philippe Clement , Vossen only played two league games in the 2019/20 season until the end of January 2020. He then moved to SV Zulte Waregem and signed a contract there until summer 2023.
National team
Jelle Vossen made his debut for the Belgian national football team on May 29, 2009 against Chile (final score 1: 1). He scored his first goal for the Red Devils on October 12, 2010 in the European Championship qualifying match against Austria (final score 4: 4). Before that, from 2004 onwards, he worked for all Belgian national youth teams without exception.
