Philippe Clement (born March 22, 1974 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian football coach . As a player, he played 38 times for the Belgian national team and played for Club Bruges for over ten years .

Career

As a player

Clement got into Belgian professional football through Antwerp suburbs. In Genk he made it to the top division and won the national cup in his senior year. In 1999 he went to Bruges where he won all national titles and took part in the Champions League several times . After ten years and over 250 games for Bruges, he let his career end with his old club, now renamed Germinal Beerschot .

From 1998 to 2007 he played 38 times for the Belgian national team and took part in the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship . His only goal was in a qualifying match for the 2004 European Championships against the national team from Bulgaria .

As a trainer

Philippe Clement started out as a youth coach in Bruges and is currently in charge of the second team there. He is also currently responsible for the professional team as an interim coach after Georges Leekens was fired at the beginning of November 2012. His time as interim coach was short-lived, soon after he was replaced as head coach by the Spaniard Juan Carlos Garrido . After that, he stayed with the team as an assistant coach.

In May 2017 Waasland-Beveren announced that Clement would take over the coaching position there from the 2017 season. In December 2017 he left the club and moved to KRC Genk as a coach .

After winning the championship there in the 2018/19 season , he left the club and accepted an offer from Club Bruges for a three-year contract as head coach.
