societies

Vormer played in the youth department of the AZ Alkmaar, where he partly ran up as team captain. In this position he led his team in 2006 at an international tournament with teams like SC Internacional , Atlético Madrid and Olympique Marseille in the final of the tournament, where they lost 2-0 to the Brazilian club SC Internacional. After the competition was over, Vormer was voted the audience's favorite and honored. Before his contract with AZ, he already ran for the youth teams of Hollandia and De Blokkers . Since the 2006/07 season he has been a member of the red and white professional squad. In the same year he made his debut in the top Dutch league against Twente Enschede . Two more games should follow this year. At the end of the season he was able to achieve 3rd place with Alkmaar. In the following season he was still not one of the regular staff, but could hope for more assignments.

In the summer of 2008, Vormer moved to league competitor Roda Kerkrade . Under coach Raymond Atteveld , the midfielder then made it to the starting line-up. However, the season did not go optimally and atteveld was replaced by Martin Koopman in October and Harm van Veldhoven one month later . Vormer managed to keep a permanent place in the team among them. At the end of the season Roda was on a relegation place and had to secure the class via FC Dordrecht and Cambuur Leeuwarden , which also succeeded. A year later, Vormer and his team managed to secure a midfield position and even ranked sixth in 2010/11 . In both seasons he was always a top performer and completed 30 or more league games for his club.

As early as December 2011, his move to Feyenoord Rotterdam from the 2012/13 season was agreed. His new contract ran for three years. For the 2014/15 season, Vormer moved to the Belgian first division club Bruges , where he signed a four-year contract. He has been the team captain since the 2017/18 season . In summer 2018, his contract was extended until the end of the 2021/22 season.

National team

Vormer won the bronze medal with the Dutch U17 at the 2005 World Cup in Peru . Only in the semi-finals did you have to admit defeat to the eventual title holder from Mexico 4-0.

He ran 3 times for the U20 .

Vormer was also a U-21 national player in his country and was nominated for the 2008 Toulon tournament in France . In 2009 he was reassigned to the U21 squad for the Toulon tournament.

It was only in 2018 that he was part of the senior national team's squad four times and then actually played: three times in friendly matches and once in a UEFA Nations League game .
