The League A of the UEFA Nations League 2018/19 was the first hosting of the highest division within this competition. It began on September 6, 2018 with the game Germany against France (0-0) and ended on June 9, 2019 with the final.

For the first staging of this competition, the national teams were divided into the respective leagues according to their UEFA coefficient .

In League A, twelve teams competed in four groups of three. The group winners (Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal and England) qualified for the final round, which took place from June 5th to 9th, 2019 in one of the four qualified countries (Portugal). The bottom of the group (Germany, Iceland, Poland and Croatia) relegated to league B, but remained in the league for the following event due to an increase in the league to 16 teams .

In addition, the four best teams that have not already qualified for the 2021 European Championship through the qualifying competition will qualify for the play-offs, which are expected to be played in October and November 2020.
