Rúrik Gíslason (born February 25, 1988 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic football player .
Career
Rúrik Gíslason played in youth at HK Kópavogur . In the spring of 2004 he moved to the youth team of the Belgian club RSC Anderlecht , which he left again in the autumn of that year. Again in the service of HK Kópavogur he ran in 2005 for the club in 1 Deild . In August 2005 he went to the English club Charlton Athletic , for which he was in the reserve team.
In 2007, the Danish club Viborg FF secured the services of Rúrik Gíslason, who signed a three-year contract. In the 2007/08 season of the Superliga , the club overseen by Anders Linderoth was in danger of relegation, so Stephen Lowe and shortly afterwards Hans Eklund took over the coaching post. During the season Rúrik was part of the squad regularly, but was mainly used as a substitute. It was only in the last few game days, when relegation was almost certain, that he was in the starting line-up and scored his first goals in Danish professional football in the games against Brøndby IF and relegated Lyngby BK . In the second division he matured to become a regular player and was one of the pillars of the club, so his contract was extended until 2012.
After missing promotion in 2009, however, Rúrik Gíslason joined Odense BK and signed a contract that ran until 2014. At the side of Peter Utaka , Anders Møller Christensen , Roy Carroll and Atle Roar Håland , he was a regular for much of the 2009/10 season and reached the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League with the team as runner-up .
After three years at FC Copenhagen (where he was Danish champion in 2013 and Danish cup winner in 2015), Rúrik Gíslason moved to 1. FC Nürnberg in the second German division in the 2015/16 season . He was occasionally used on the club's regional league team.
On January 18, 2018 Rúrik first moved to the end of the current season 2017/18 to SV Sandhausen . There he scored his first goal in the 2nd Bundesliga in a 1-1 game against FC Erzgebirge Aue on March 3, 2018. In June 2018 he extended his contract term at SV Sandhausen until 2020.
National team
In March 2009 he made his debut, having already since 2005 for Iceland U-21 team was accrued in the Icelandic senior team . The Faroe Islands won the match 1: 2.
Rúrik Gíslason was part of the Icelandic squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia . While the team's athletic record was moderate, Rúrik attracted unexpected media attention.
politics
Rúrik stood as a candidate in the Icelandic parliamentary elections in 2016 and 2017 on a lower position in the list of the Conservative Independence Party in Reykjavík.
