Chronica XXIV Generalium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chronica XXIV Generalium Ordinis Fratrum Minorum ( Chronicle of the XXIV General (minister) of the Order of Friars Minor ) is a medieval chronicle of the Franciscan order written in Latin . It was probably written around 1370 by the Friars Minor Arnaud de Sarrant , although his authorship is doubted according to more recent findings, for example those of Lützelschwab. The chronicle tells the story of the order from its founding by Francis of Assisi (1210) to Leonardo Rossi (1373-1378), the order's 24th general minister, if Francis is counted first. In the chronicle, various miraculous things ( miraculum ) and martyrdoms are described in great detail, which is why it has been intensively received and cited by historians of the order for centuries.
