Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson (born February 26, 1991 in Akranes ) is an Icelandic football player .
Career
Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson made his teenage debut for the reserve team of ÍA, who is based in his hometown Akranes . In 2007 he moved up to the competition team, where he played eleven league games in Landsbankadeild in his first year, primarily as a substitute . In the second year he moved up to the regular strength at the side of Bjarni Guðjónsson , Heimir Einarsson and Þórður Guðjónsson . As the bottom of the table, the club rose to the end of the season in the second division.
In January 2009 Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson left his home country to sign a contract with the Norwegian first division club Lillestrøm SK . In the Tippeligaen , the young attacker was primarily a substitute in his first year, in the following seasons he established himself as a regular player. With five goals this season and eight assists in the 2011 season , he was one of the twenty players with the most goal participations, only Anthony Ujah was before him within the club. In 2012 he signed a four-year contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second-rate English Football League Championship . However, he could not prevail there in the first two years and was awarded for the 2014 season to the Norwegian club Molde FK . With this team he won the championship and cup double . After that, FC Copenhagen brought him to the Danish Super League on loan until the end of the 2014/15 season . Here he won the cup with the club. He then returned to England and played a few more games for the Wolverhampton Wanderers. His contract, which expired in summer 2016, was not renewed. He then returned to Norway to Molde FK. His contract there runs until the end of the 2019 season. During the winter break 2017/18, his move to the Russian first division club FK Rostov in the Premier League was announced.
Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson had already played for the national team of the Icelandic Football Association as a teenager. As part of the qualifiers for the 2012 European Championship finals , he made his debut in the senior national team for just one game in September 2011 . Only since the end of 2016 did he come to other missions. As part of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, he scored his first international goal in the game against Kosovo on March 24, 2017. He was also in the final Icelandic squad for the World Cup, where Iceland was able to play in a World Cup finals for the first time. After a draw with Argentina and defeats against Nigeria and Croatia, Iceland was eliminated as the last in Group D in the preliminary round; Björn was substituted on in all three games.
