Zlatko Dalić (born October 26, 1966 in Livno , SR Bosnia and Herzegovina , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian football player and current coach . He has been the coach of the Croatian national team since 2017 .

Player career

During his playing days, Dalić played for Hajduk Split , FK Velež Mostar and NK Varaždin, among others .

Coaching career

After his playing career, Dalić hit a career as a coach. He initially trained among others HNK Rijeka , KS Dinamo Tirana and NK Slaven Belupo Koprivnica . He then went to Saudi Arabia and held various positions for the Al-Faisaly and Al-Hilal clubs .

Between March 2014 and January 2017, Dalić coached the Al Ain Club from the United Arab Emirates. During this time, the club won the championship, the cup and the super cup. In 2016 the team reached the final of the AFC Champions League , but lost to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors from South Korea.

In October 2017, Dalić became the Croatian national coach and led the team into the final of the 2018 World Cup . There they became vice world champions after a 2: 4 defeat behind France. Second place was Croatia's best performance at world championships to date.

On November 16, 2019, his team qualified for the European Championship 2020 with 17 points from 8 games. This makes Dalić the first Croatian coach since Slaven Bilić to survive a qualifying round without a sacking.
