Zamkowo ( German  Samkowen ) is a small place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the rural community Sorkwity ( German  Sorquitten ) in the powiat Mrągowski ( Sensburg district ).

Geographical location

Zamkowo is located in the heart of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship , nine kilometers west of the district town of Mrągowo ( German  Sensburg ).

history

Samkowen was an old settlement, in 1839 a Vorwerk and until 1945 belonged to the estate of Bothau ( Polish : Bałowo ) as a residential area . In 1839 the small town had six inhabitants, in 1871 already ten, in 1885 still eight, in 1898 only two and in 1905 five. On September 30, 1928, the Samkowen Vorwerk was incorporated with the Bothau estate into the rural community of Sonntag ( Zyndaki in Polish ).

As a result of the war, Samkowen was transferred to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia and was given the Polish form of the name “Zamkowo”. Today it is an on Zyndaki (Sunday) affiliated place ( "częśź wsi") and thus in the rural community Sorkwity (Sorquitten) in mrągowo county (Kreis Sensburg attached) village until 1998, the Olsztyn province , since the Warmia and Mazury belong .

church

Until 1945 Samkowen was ecclesiastically oriented towards Warpuhnen ( Polish Warpuny ), both to the Protestant parish within the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and to the Catholic parish , which belonged to the diocese of Ermland at that time .

The connection to Warpuny still exists today: to the Catholic parish within the current Archdiocese of Warmia and to the Evangelical Church, which was inaugurated again in 2016 after decades of decline and extensive restoration, now from the parish in Sorkwity in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church supervised in Poland .

traffic

Zamkowo can be reached directly by land from the eastern Gehlandsee shore road via Bałowo (Bothau) . There is no rail link.
