Surmówka ( German Surmowen , 1938 to 1945 Surmau ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the Gmina Sorkwity ( rural community Sorquitten ) in the powiat Mrągowski ( Sensburg district ).
Geographical location
Surmówka is located in the heart of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , twelve kilometers northwest of the district town of Mrągowo ( German Sensburg ).
history
In 1577 Surmowen was founded. 1874, the village in was District Burschewen ( Polish Burszewo ) integrated, the - 1938 in "District Prußhöfen" renamed - was and until 1945 for Sensburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen (1905: Administrative district Allenstein ) in the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged.
On February 17, 1920 Surmowen expanded to the neighboring estate Schellongowken (1938 to 1945 Schillingshöfen , Polish Szelągówka ), which was incorporated. Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Surmowen belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether they would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus to Germany) or join Poland. In Surmowen, 220 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, Poland did not cast any votes.
On June 3, 1938 (officially confirmed on July 16), Surmowen was renamed to "Surmau" for political and ideological reasons to defend against foreign-sounding place names .
In 1945, the village came in consequence of the war with the entire southern East Prussia to Poland and received the Polish form of the name "Surmówka". Today it is the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ) and as such a place in the network of the rural community Sorkwity (Sorquitten) in Powiat Mrągowski ( Sensburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

Until 1945 Surmowen resp. Surmau in the Protestant Church of Warpuhnen in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and also in the Catholic Church of Warpuhnen in the former diocese of Warmia . The relationship to both churches according to Warpuny continues today, with the church now being looked after by the parish of Sorkwity in the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland and on the Catholic side the church is now part of the Archdiocese of Warmia .

Surmówka is located on a side road that connects the villages of Zyndaki (Sonntag) and Choszczewo (Choszewen , 1936 to 1945 Hohensee) . There is no train connection.
