history
Koßelau was founded in 1526 and mentioned in 1785 as "a noble estate and village with 31 fireplaces", the landowner was Mrs. Major von Herzberg . Klein Rosoggen ( Babięty in Polish , no longer existent), Leschienen ( Lesiny ) and Sophienthal (no longer existent) were places to live in the municipality. From 1874 to 1945 Koslau was incorporated into the Ribben district ( Rybno in Polish ), which belonged to the Sensburg district in the Gumbinnen district (from 1905: Allenstein district ) in the Prussian province of East Prussia .
Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Koslau belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether it would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus to Germany) or join Poland. In Koslau (village and estate), 320 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, while Poland did not cast any votes.
On September 30, 1928, the rural community of Koslau expanded when the neighboring districts of Klein Maradtken ( Maradki Małe in Polish ) and Roßgarten ( Kobylec in Polish , both no longer exist) were incorporated. On July 1, 1930 previously independent administrative bodies was from the two Gutsbezirk Koslau and rural community Koslau formed the new rural community Koslau.
When all of southern East Prussia was transferred to Poland in 1945 as a result of the war , Koslau was also affected. The village received the Polish form of the name "Kozłowo". Today it is the seat of a Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) and as such a place in the network of the rural community Sorkwity (Sorquitten) in the powiat Mrągowski ( Sensburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .
