Léon Rudnicki

Léon Rudnicki (born July 28, 1873 in Poland , † January 29, 1958 in Villebon-sur-Yvette ) was a French painter , illustrator and decorator of Art Nouveau .

Léon Rudnicki came to France with his Polish political émigré family in 1876 and began his training at the Polish school in the Parisian Quartier des Batignolles . On October 19, 1891, he received French citizenship.

In 1892 Rudnicki entered the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs . His works brought him many awards from 1893 onwards.

He illustrated the works of the writer and publisher of bibliophile books Octave Uzanne in Art Nouveau style: La Femme à Paris . Nos contemporaines (1894), Féminies de Félicien Rops (1896), Visions de notre heure, choses et gens qui passent (1899), Dictionnaire biblio-philosophique (1896), La locomotion à travers les âges (1900).

In the auditorium of the Art Nouveau building of the Opera in Vichy , Rudnicki designed frescoes and decorations under the direction of Charles LeCoeur, which brought him the Order of the Academic Palms on May 29, 1903 .

He also took part in the decoration of the water pavilion of the spa town of Pougues-les-Eaux (1905-1907).

He worked with the artists Emil Causé, Victor Prouvé , René Wiener and Louis Majorelle .

His Paris studio was located at 17 rue Denfert-Rochereau between 1902 and 1912 and his home at 12 rue d'Odessa.
