Kamil Jacek Glik (born February 3, 1988 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój ) is a Polish football player . He plays for Benevento Calcio and for the Polish national team .

ancestors

As the grandson of an Upper Silesian grandfather who was drafted into the Wehrmacht , Glik also has German citizenship . His surname Glück is written in his German passport .

Career

Kamil Glik started playing football at MOSiR Jastrzębie at the age of eight and then worked for five years in the youth department of WSP Wodzisław Śląski .

The 1.90 m tall central defender, who was trained at Real Madrid, among others, began his professional career at Piast Gliwice in Ekstraklasa, Poland . On July 7, 2010 he signed a five-year contract in the Italian Serie A with US Palermo . However, he did not play a league game for Palermo and was loaned to the league rivals SSC Bari , where he was a regular player , until the end of the season. After his return he was sold to the second division club FC Turin . With the Turin he rose to Serie A and was also named captain of the team. In total, he played 154 league games for Turin FC and scored twelve goals.

Glik moved to AS Monaco for the 2016/17 season . He received a four-year contract.

In August 2020, Glik joined Benevento Calcio on a free transfer .

National team

On January 20, 2010 Glik made his debut in a friendly against Thailand (3: 1) in the Polish national team ; he was in the starting lineup and scored in the 43rd minute to make it 1-0. Poland was directly qualified for the tournament as co-host of the Euro 2012 . In preparation for the EM, he came to six missions; however, he was not nominated for the tournament squad.

In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , Glik made eight appearances; the team failed to qualify as fourth.

He qualified for the Euro 2016 in France as a regular player in central defense; in two friendlies before the European Championship he was temporarily the team captain . He was in the Polish squad for the European Championship and was part of the regular team in all five games. He was one of the players who played all games over the full playing time. In the knockout games against Switzerland and Portugal, he played on penalties and converted.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he was part of the Polish squad . He was used in two group games and retired with the team after the group stage.
