Christian Maggio (born February 11, 1982 in Montecchio Maggiore ) is an Italian football player who has been under contract with Benevento Calcio in Serie B since summer 2018 . He prefers to play on the right flank, either as a defender or as a midfielder.

Career

Maggio started his career at Vicenza Calcio . He made his Serie A debut on October 1, 2000 against AC Milan . In the 2000/01 season, he completed six league games at Vicenza and rose with the club at end of season in the Serie B from. In the following season he was used in 27 Serie B games, he scored one goal. After he came to only five appearances at Vicenza Calcio in the 2002/03 season, he moved to Florence in the summer of 2003. At the Fiorentina he managed to fight for a regular place. He made his competitive debut on June 24, 2010 at the World Cup in South Africa, when he was substituted on at half time in the last group game against Slovakia .

On March 18, 2015, Maggio announced his retirement from the national team. He played his last game for the Squadra Azzurra on March 5, 2014 against Spain . He was last nominated in November 2014 for the game against Croatia .
