Sverrir Ingi Ingason (born August 5, 1993 in Kópavogur ) is an Icelandic football player on the position of a defender who is mainly used in central defense . He is currently under contract with the Greek first division club PAOK Thessaloniki .

Career

society

In January 2010, Sverrir Ingi Ingason moved from the U-19 to the men's team from Breiðablik Kópavogur . In total, he completed four seasons in the Pepsideild , the highest league in Iceland. In 2013 he won the Icelandic League Cup with Kópavogur. With the subsequent participation in the qualification for the UEFA Europa League 2013/14 Sverrir Ingi made his debut in international club football. With Kópavogur he was able to advance into the third round. On the way there, the Austrian Bundesliga team SK Sturm Graz was defeated in the second round .

On January 1, 2014, he moved to Viking Stavanger in Norway . There he played one season in the top Norwegian league, the Tippeligaen . He completed 29 out of 30 possible season games. He missed the last game due to a yellow card suspension. He also reached the quarter-finals in the NM Cup with Viking .

In February 2015, Sverrir Ingi signed a contract with Belgian first division club Sporting Lokeren . He made his debut in the Pro League on February 7, 2015. In the 1-0 win over KV Ostend , he was on the pitch for over 90 minutes.

On January 19, 2017, he moved to Spain, where he signed a contract with Granada CF until 2020.

After half a year with Granada, he moved to Russia on June 30, 2017 for FK Rostov .

On February 1, 2019 Ingason moved to the Greek first division club PAOK Saloniki for a transfer fee of 4 million euros . In his first months in Thessaloniki, Ingason can become a master with PAOK.

National team

Sverrir Ingi Ingason went through all Icelandic junior national teams. With the U-21 he took part in the qualification for the U-21 European Championship 2015 . He was eliminated with Iceland only in the play-offs against the U-21 of Denmark . He made his debut for the senior national team on January 21, 2014 when he lost 2-0 in a friendly against Sweden . He came in the 57th minute for Hallgrímur Jónasson in the game. A year later, he played his second international match over 90 minutes as a right defender against Canada. In the run-up to the 2016 European Football Championship in France, he was tested four times in central defense. He scored his first two international goals against Greece and Norway in March and June 2016 respectively. He was then accepted into Iceland 's EM squad . He made his first appearance as a substitute in the final minutes of the last group game against Austria. With the 2: 1 success, the EM newcomer made it into the knockout phase. In the quarter-finals against France he was on the pitch for the second time when the team was already 4-0 down at halftime and finally knocked out 2-5.

He was also on the Icelandic squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Iceland was able to take part in a World Cup finals for the first time. After a draw with Argentina and defeats against Nigeria and Croatia, Iceland was eliminated as the last in Group D in the preliminary round; Sverrir Ingi Ingason was used against Nigeria and Croatia.
