Dimitris Limnios , or Dimitrios Limnios ( Greek Δημήτρης Λημνιός , born May 27, 1998 in Volos ), is a Greek football player of Brazilian descent who has been under contract with the first division club PAOK Thessaloniki since July 2017 . The winger has been a Greek international since May 2018 .

Career

Born in the port city of Volos , Dimitris Limnios, son of a Brazilian and a Greek, began playing football with Niki Volos. In 2012 he joined the youth department of Atromitos Athens , where he was promoted to the first team two years later. On October 25, 2014 (8th matchday) he made his first-team debut in a 1-1 draw against Ergotelis when he came on for Andreas Tatos in the 84th minute . In this 2014/15 season he played this league game. He came in the following season 2015/16 , he was used in eight league games. He made his breakthrough in the starting line-up in the next 2016/17 season . He scored his first league goal on December 4, 2016 (13th matchday) in a 2-1 away win against AE Larisa . On April 6, 2017 it was announced that Limnios will join league rivals PAOK Thessaloniki for the following season 2017/18 . The club paid a transfer fee of 900,000 euros for the services of the winger and provided him with a four-year contract. He finished the season in the jersey of the capital city with 25 league appearances, in which he scored a goal.

On July 1, 2019, he joined PAOK. On August 20, 2017, he made his debut in a 0-0 draw against Levadiakos . He scored his first goal on November 29, 2017 in a 5-0 away win against Eginiakos at Kypello Elladas . Under the head coach Răzvan Lucescu he did not have the final breakthrough as a regular player and he was used in 21 league games in which he failed to score. He scored his first goal in Super League 1 on October 29, 2018 (8th matchday) in a 2-0 home win against Panathinaikos Athens . He played 20 league games in which he scored a goal this 2018/19 season and won the championship with PAOK. The double was completed in May 2019 by winning the Greek Cup .

His breakthrough as a regular player came in the 2019/20 season under the new head coach Abel Ferreira .

National team

In January 2014 Limnios played a friendly international match for the Greek U16 national team . From August 2014 he played for the U17 and took part with them in May 2015 at the U17 European Championship in Bulgaria , where he was used in all three group games. In August 2015 he played for the U17 for the last time. He made a total of 16 internationals in which he scored three times. From October 2015 to March 2017 he played 15 times for the U19s and scored three goals in these games. He then played for the U21s , for whom he also played 15 international matches and scored three goals.

On March 16, 2018, he was nominated for the first time for an international match in the A selection by coach Michael Skibbe . In the friendly against Switzerland, however, he was not considered by Skibbe. He made his debut on May 15, 2018 in a 2-0 away defeat by Saudi Arabia when he came on for Vasilios Lampropoulos at half-time . On November 15, 2019, Dimitris Limnios scored the winning goal in the qualifier against Armenia to make it 1-0, which was also his first international goal.
