The Ergotelis FC ( Greek ΠΑΕ Εργοτέλης , International Association Ergotelis) is a Greek football club from Heraklion , the capital of Crete .
General
Ergotelis was an ancient Cretan Olympian . The association of the same name was founded in 1929 by refugees from Asia Minor . Ergotelis was the leading club on the island for years before the Greek military dictatorship in 1967 and its sports minister transferred the club's best players to OFI . The reasons for this were that the team consisted mainly of mainland Greeks who fled to Crete .
In recent years, Ergotelis can be described more as an elevator team. In the past five years, the club rose twice, but also down again. In 2006, relegation could be achieved for the first time again. The team plays their home games at the Pankritio Stadio . In early 2016, after financial difficulties, the club withdrew the team from the second division and relegated to the Gamma Ethniki .
