Nathan Benjamin Aké (born February 18, 1995 in The Hague ) is a Dutch - Ivorian football player . The defender is under contract with Manchester City in England and is a Dutch international.

Career

society

Aké was born in The Hague and grew up in the suburb of Leidschendam-Voorburg . Through his father Moise, he also has Ivorian citizenship. He started playing football at the local club ADO Den Haag when he was nine . At the age of 15, Aké moved to Rotterdam , where he was accepted by Feyenoord as a youth . With the U17 of the club, he was B youth champion.

In January 2011 he moved to Chelsea . At the club from London Aké was initially used in youth, u. a. in the NextGen Series and the UEFA Youth League . On December 26, 2012 Aké made his Premier League debut when he was substituted on for Juan Mata in stoppage time in the 1-0 away win against Norwich City by coach Rafael Benítez . He was also part of the squad that won the Europa League in the 2012/13 season and played twice for the team in this competition. In the 2013/14 season Aké also came to a Premier League assignment; otherwise, the defender continued to collect match practice in the U19, which he led as captain.

In the 2014/15 season , Aké initially only made a few appearances in the FA and League Cup under the new coach José Mourinho . On March 25, 2015 he was loaned to Reading FC for a month . For the Royals he came to five starting eleven appearances in the second-rate Football League Championship during this time . Aké then returned to Chelsea, where he played a Premier League and was on the bench when he won the league cup. He also won the national championship title with the team, but did not receive a winner's medal because he had not played at least five league games.

On August 14, 2015, the Dutchman extended his contract with Chelsea until June 30, 2020 and moved to the newly promoted Watford FC on loan until the end of the 2015/16 season . At the Hornets, Akè moved from central defense to the left defensive flank and was often on the field from the start. In the FA Cup he reached the semifinals with Watford, in the league they ended up in the middle of the table. The defender spent the next half of the year at AFC Bournemouth , but he left for the second half of the season for his home club Chelsea, with whom he was again champion, but without showing the minimum number of inserts.

With no chance of getting past the national players Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger in central defense, Aké returned to Bournemouth in the summer of 2017, which had finally signed him for £ 20mn. There the Dutchman played in the defensive network and played in all league games from the start. Only in winter 2019 and in spring 2020 Aké missed a few competitive games due to injury. Only three teams conceded more goals than Bournemouth, and 18th was the move to the second-rate championship for the 2020/21 season .

At the beginning of August 2020, the defender moved to the Premier League runners-up, Manchester City , who provided him with a contract valid until June 2025.

National team

In 2011 and 2012 Aké won the European title with the Dutch U17 . When he won in 2012, Aké led his team as captain and was elected to the team of the tournament. In 2011 he also came on as a substitute in all three group games during the preliminary round at the U17 World Cup in Mexico .

In a friendly against Morocco , Aké was left-back under Bondscoach Fred Grim in May 2017 for the first time for his country's A selection .
