Gabriel Jesus , with full name Gabriel Fernando de Jesus (born April 3, 1997 in São Paulo ), is a Brazilian soccer player . The striker has played for Palmeiras São Paulo since 2012 and moved to Manchester City in January 2017 .

Gabriel Jesus was born in São Paulo and grew up in the Cachoeirinha district , where he started playing street football at an early age . He joined various smaller clubs in the neighborhood. He started at Pequeninos do Meio Ambiente . Here the coach initially used him as a defender. Its last stadium was the Associação Atlética Annexuera . In 2013, shortly before his 16th birthday, he moved to the youth department of the traditional Palmeiras São Paulo club .

In January 2014, Gabriel Jesus signed a professional contract with Palmeiras. In 2014, he scored 37 goals in 22 games in the U-17 championship. From August 2014 he was in the squad of the relegation-threatened professional team several times without being used. Some fans asked for his use by petition.

Gabriel Jesus made his professional debut on March 7, 2015 in the state championship in São Paulo , and he was used eight times during the season. Palmeiras lost in the final on penalties against FC Santos . On April 29th he had his first appearance in the Copa do Brasil and shortly afterwards in the Série A , the top Brazilian division. In 20 appearances in the 2015 season he scored four goals and was voted the best young player in the league. In the cup, he scored three times in nine games. National team

Gabriel Jesus took part in the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand with the Brazilian U-20 national team. He played in all six games up to the final, scoring a goal and converting his attempt on penalties in the eighth and quarter-finals. In the final, the Brazilian selection lost to the Serbs 1: 2 after extra time.

In August 2016 he took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . On August 20, 2016, he finally won Olympic gold in the final against Germany. As part of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup , Gabriel Jesus played his first game for the national team's senior squad on September 1, 2016. In the game against Ecuador he was on from the start. In the game he scored his first goals for the team. He hit with his right foot in the 87th minute after a submission by Marcelo and in the 90th after a submission by Neymar . Also during the 2019 Copa América Gabriel Jesus stood in the squad of the team. With this he was able to win the title. Jesus grew up without a father. He left the family while his mother was pregnant with him.

Jesus is a fan of the Brazilian hip-hop band Racionais MC's . In particular, their song A Vida é Desafio , published in 2002, is an inspiration to him. The opening verses of the song mean Life is a great challenge , Jesus made this motto his mantra . He hears the song at least once a day and before every game. Jesus had parts of the song tattooed on his chest next to a soccer ball .
