Eric García Martret (born January 9, 2001 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish football player .

Career

In the club

The Barcelona- born García switched from the youth of FC Barcelona to the youth of Manchester City in the 2017/18 season . In his first season he played mainly with the U18s in the U18 Premier League and the FA Youth Cup and with the U19s in the UEFA Youth League . He was also used twice in the U23. In the 2018/19 season García was a permanent member of the U23 squad, for which he played 10 league games, and was featured twice in the UEFA Youth League for the U19s. García also played a few games with the U18 in the FA Youth Cup. On December 18, 2018, he made his professional debut under his compatriot Pep Guardiola when he played for the full season in the win against Leicester City in the EFL Cup .

At the beginning of the 2019/20 season , García was on the bench when he won the Community Shield against Liverpool FC , but without being substituted on. Then he was used again in the U23. Since two central defenders, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, were out on a long-term basis, Guardiola moved him up to the professional squad in September 2019. On September 21, García made his Premier League debut when he was substituted on in the 8-0 win over Watford FC in the second half. By the end of the season, the professional team had 12 more Premier League appearances (8 from the start) as well as 2 in the FA Cup , 3 in the EFL Cup, which City won, and 2 in the Champions League . In addition, García played 3 times for the U23s and 2 times for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League this season.

In the national team

García played 11 times for the Spanish U17 national team between 2017 and 2018 . With her he took part in the U17 European Championships in 2017 (2 games / 0 goals when winning the title) and 2018 (4 games / 2 goals) as well as in the U17 World Championship in 2017 (1 game / 0 goals). Since February 2019 he has played in the U19 team , for which he was used 9 times. With her he took part in the U19 European Championship 2019 , in which he was used in all 5 games to win the title. García has been active in the U21 team since September 2019 .
