Denzel Dumfries (born April 18, 1996 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch - Aruban football player . The defender is under contract with PSV Eindhoven and is part of the Dutch senior team .

Dumfries' father is Aruban with parents from Suriname , his mother is from Suriname. He himself was born and raised in Rotterdam.

Career

Denzel Dumfries started playing football at Spartaan '20 in the south of Rotterdam before moving to VV Smitshoek in Barendrecht, south of Rotterdam. The Rotterdam-born Dumfries ended up in the football school of Sparta Rotterdam via the BVV Barendrecht detour . In February 2015 he made his debut in the second highest Dutch division and was eighth of the table this season. He rose with Sparta Rotterdam in the 2015/16 season as a second division champion in the Eredivisie and held the class as fifteenth in the table. In the summer of 2017, Dumfries moved to SC Heerenveen and qualified with the club as eighth in the table for the play-offs to participate in the qualification for the Europa League, in which they were eliminated in the first round.

For the 2018/19 season Dumfries went to PSV Eindhoven and signed a five-year contract.

National team

In March 2014 Dumfries played two games for the Aruba national team . Since these were not competitive games, he is still eligible to play for the national teams of the Netherlands.

Dumfries then played four games for the Dutch U20 and, from November 2016, eleven games for the U21 national team . On September 11, 2018, Dumfries played for the U21 for the last time due to age in the 2-1 defeat in the European Championship qualifier in Doetinchem against Scotland.

In October 2018 he played for the first time for the Dutch senior team in the group game of the League A of the UEFA Nations League against Germany (3-0) .
