Yvon Landry Mvogo Nganoma (born June 6, 1994 in Yaoundé , Cameroon ) is a Swiss football goalkeeper of Cameroonian origin who is on loan from RB Leipzig to PSV Eindhoven . He has also played for Swiss national teams since the U15.

Career

Mvogo had played in his youth at FC Marly and FC Friborg before moving to the youth department of BSC Young Boys in 2010 . Since 2011 he was part of the first team there, but played for the U21s in the fourth class first division until the 2013/14 season . After he was able to prevail against the previous goalkeeper Marco Wölfli in the summer preparation of 2013 , Mvogo was henceforth number 1 in the Bernese team. In the following season , the goalkeeper played for the first time in the European Cup, when he reached the intermediate round of the Europa League with the team . As a result, Mvogo only missed a few games, always ended up with the team in the top 3 and played regularly in the European Cup; By the summer of 2017 he was in 154 cross-competition games for the Young Boys between the posts and received an average of less than two hits per game.

For the 2017/18 season , the Swiss moved to the German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig . He signed a four-year contract at the beginning of April 2017 and was supposed to take the place of his compatriot Marius Müller , who left the club on loan and had previously stood as a backup for goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi . Mvogo made his debut in the top German division on matchday 4 in the away game against FC Augsburg , which was lost 1-0. In the following two years the keeper was in goal eleven times in the European Cup, four more times in the Bundesliga and three times in the DFB Cup .

For the 2020/21 season , his contract in Leipzig was prematurely extended to June 2023 and a two-year loan deal with the Dutch first division club PSV Eindhoven was agreed.

National team

Mvogo played for the Swiss junior national teams from 2009 to 2016. He has been called up several times for the senior national team since November 2014 and made his first appearance on October 15, 2018 against Iceland.

For the match in qualifying for the 2016 European Championship against Lithuania, he was appointed to the Swiss senior national team for the first time .

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he was part of the Swiss squad . He was not used and was eliminated with the team in the round of 16.

Personal

Mvogo was born in Cameroon and moved to Friborg in Switzerland with his mother at the age of six . The reason for this was that his mother had met a Swiss man. The father stayed in Cameroon.
