Timo Baumgartl (born March 4, 1996 in Böblingen ) is a German football player who is under contract with PSV Eindhoven and has been active several times for German youth national teams. He is the son of the former German national handball player Michaela Baumgartl .

Career

Baumgartl moved from GSV Maichingen to SSV Reutlingen 05 in 2010 . After a year in Reutlingen, he went to the VfB Stuttgart youth training center . With the Stuttgart B-youth he was German runner- up in the 2011/12 season and German champion in the 2012/13 season . Baumgartl was still used as a striker in his youth, but he was retrained as a central defender in the B youth.

As a youth player Timo Baumgartl made his professional debut for the second team of VfB Stuttgart on December 18, 2013 on the 21st matchday of the 2013/14 season in the 3rd soccer league against Borussia Dortmund II . On April 26, 2014 Baumgartl scored his first goal of the season against 1. FC Heidenheim .

Baumgartl signed his first licensed player contract with VfB Stuttgart on June 29, 2014 , which was dated to June 30, 2017. On November 8, 2014, Baumgartl made his Bundesliga debut with the VfB first team against Werder Bremen . He extended his contract with VfB on January 26, 2015 early until the end of June 2018. In the second half of the 2014/15 season he became a regular under the then VfB head coach Huub Stevens . On August 11, 2015, Baumgartl signed a new contract that bound him to VfB Stuttgart until 2020.

After relegation in the 2015/16 season , Baumgartl contributed as an established regular player in the 2016/17 season to the second division championship and the associated direct resurgence of VfB Stuttgart. On December 3, 2017, he then signed a new contract without an exit clause, which would run until 2022. At the end of the 2018/19 season , he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga again with VfB.

On July 25, 2019, Baumgartl moved to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and signed a contract with a term of five years.

National team

On June 7, 2011 Timo Baumgartl made his debut for the German U-15 national team in a game against Portugal. Two days later he was again in action for the German U-15 team against Portugal. Baumgartl made his debut for the U-18 national team of Germany on November 16, 2013 against the Czech Republic. Baumgartl played his first game for the German U-19 national team on September 5, 2014 against the Netherlands. His debut in the U-21 national team lasted 18 minutes when he was sent off in the 83rd minute because of an emergency brake with the red card in the 1-0 defeat by Poland in Tychy after he was sent off in the 65th minute for Levin Öztunali had been substituted. In the meantime he was captain of the U21 national team under coach Stefan Kuntz .
