German national junior soccer teams

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

German national junior soccer teams take part in UEFA and FIFA competitions for youth teams. In the medium and long term, players for the senior national team should be found and promoted. Since it is assumed that age is an essential factor for the skill level of a player in the youth field, an upper age limit has been introduced for the individual competitions or teams in order to guarantee a comparable skill level. To identify the teams, a U (= under) is placed in front of the maximum age of the players.

history

The first junior team in the DFB division was the A-Junior team (U18), which premiered on March 31, 1953 in Liège - on the occasion of a tournament organized by FIFA - in a 3-2 victory over Argentina.

The team line-up: Hannes - Peterek, Beste - Hoffmann , Buderus , Scholz - Muhl , Seeler , Habig , Striker , Mattheus

In 1956, the student national team ( U15 ) was added, which initially played only international matches against the selection of England. From 1975 youth international matches were played separately for the A youth (U18) and B youth (U16). With the introduction of world championships and European championships for juniors, a year-by-year division of the youth teams developed.

In the senior sector, the junior national team ( U23 ) was established in 1955 . The DFB has not held any junior international matches "Under 23" since 1974 and replaced the "U23" team with the new "U21", which also replaced the "U23 European Championship" in international matches. U21 international matches have been played since October 10, 1979.
