Helmut Horsch (born October 12, 1948 in Girod / Westerwald ) is a former German soccer player and today's soccer coach .

Player career

As an active player, Horsch played in the 1960s as an attacker for the then regional league club TuS Neuendorf in Koblenz . He then moved to SG Wattenscheid 09 in the 1970s , with whom he played in the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga . During this time he played there under coaching legend Karl-Heinz Feldkamp in a strong team together with players like Hannes Bongartz , Heinz-Josef Koitka , Ewald Hammes and Carlos Babington . Even today, the team from the 1970s is considered to be one of the best of SG Wattenscheid 09. However, despite the well-composed squad and repeated participation in the promotion round, it was not possible to get promoted to the Bundesliga. At the end of the 1970s Horsch had to struggle more and more with injuries, which ultimately meant an early career end. In the course of his career he has made a name for himself as a fast winger. However, Horsch shone more as a template provider than as an executor. He completed a total of 161 second division games, in which he scored 22 goals.

Coaching career

Club coach

Horsch began his coaching career as coach of the amateurs at VfL Bochum , where he also worked with Hermann Gerland as an assistant coach in the professional team under Rolf Schafstall . After two successful seasons at VfL Bochum, in which the amateur team managed to qualify for the DFB Cup, in which they were eliminated in the second round against the then champions VfB Stuttgart , he moved to Preußen Münster in 1986 and led the club in 1987/88 superior to the championship in the Oberliga Westfalen . In the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga, however, the club fails to Hertha BSC , VfL Wolfsburg, MSV Duisburg and Eintracht Braunschweig. A season later, Münster was again champion in a thrilling league final against Arminia Bielefeld and this time also made it to the 2nd division by being behind with MSV Duisburg in the promotion group with Göttingen 05 , Reinickendorfer Füchsen and TSV Havelse as second place qualified. With this success, Horsch said goodbye to Münster and in 1989 he became an association trainer at the Westphalia Football and Athletics Association . Horsch held this position until December 30, 2013.

Association trainer

At the FLVW, Helmut Horsch was responsible for women's and senior football as a coach. In addition, he was a trainer for the C license, with a focus on senior citizens, spokesman for the DFB association sports teachers and was a member of the board of directors of the Association of German Football Teachers and a member of the DFB's coaching staff . In 2000, Horsch also began to work for the DFB on a fee basis as a coach for the U21 women's national team . From 2007 to 2008 he was the first coach of the newly founded U-23 juniors of the DFB.
