The Association of German Football Teachers e. V. ( BDFL for short ) is the professional association of football coaches in Germany , based in Frankfurt am Main .

The federal office of the association is located in Wiesbaden.

It has around 5,100 members in 2019.

129 German professional trainers, including Sepp Herberger , Dettmar Cramer , Herbert Widmayer , Paul Oßwald and Heinz Lucas , founded the BDFL in 1957 to protect their professional interests. Trainers licensed by the German Football Association (DFB) with the two highest licenses, the football teacher license or the A license, can join it. According to the DFB training regulations, membership of every A-license trainer / soccer teacher in the BDFL is recommended. Around three quarters of the qualified trainers are currently organized in the BDFL; for soccer teachers it is almost one hundred percent.

The club works closely with the DFB. While the DFB is responsible for the training of the trainers, it has transferred the further training measures that are necessary for the extension of a license according to the DFB trainer regulations to the BDFL. To this end, the organizes four to five advanced training conferences a year in its eight regional association groups. He also organizes an annual international trainer congress, workshops and national league trainer conferences.

In addition to this main task, the BDFL also ensures, according to its statutes, for the “preservation of fair play” and “monitoring of sporting laws in coaching matters”, advocates “order and righteousness” and punishes “misconduct as far as possible in its own jurisdiction”. The association also advises its members on all coaching issues.

Lutz Hangartner is the president of the BDFL board for the legislative period from 2018 to 2021 ; Vice-President Dirk Reimöller (advanced training), Prof. Dr. Oliver Höner (methodology / science) and Jürgen Pforr (treasurer) as well as Thomas Schaaf (representative of the Bundesliga coach). Another member of the executive committee is Daniel Niedzkowski (DFB head of the football teacher course) ; as representatives of the Bundesliga and the Second Bundesliga Dieter Hecking and Achim Beierlorzer on the board; of the professional association. Michael M. Meurer has been federal manager since the beginning of 2000 .
