Iñigo Martínez Berridi (born May 17, 1991 in Ondarroa ) is a Spanish football player .
Career
societies
Iñigo Martínez joined the Spanish professional club Real Sociedad San Sebastián during his youth - coming from the amateur club Aurrerá de Ondarroa . In the 2009/10 season he made his first games for the club's second team, with whom he realized the promotion from the Tercera División to the Segunda División B in the same year . After he had already completed 23 games in his first season, in which he scored one goal, and ended his second season with 31 games and one goal, he was brought to the senior team in the Primera División in 2011/12 . He made his first division debut on August 27, 2011 against Sporting Gijón . In his first season he became a regular at the age of 20. In 2012/13 he finally became a top performer and only missed three games. Surprisingly, he reached fourth place with the team and thus the qualification place for the Champions League . In April 2016 he signed a new five-year contract.
In January 2018, Martínez moved to Basque rival Athletic Bilbao for the contractually agreed transfer fee of 32 million euros . He signed a contract until June 2023.
National team
Martínez has played through various youth national teams in Spain so far. He started with the U-20s, for whom he made his only game in April 2011 against Italy, then came to the U-23s, with whom he played at the 2012 Olympics , and last played for the U-21s , with the he won the title at the European Championships in Israel.
