Gaizka Larrazabal Goikoetxea (born December 17, 1997 in Bilbao ), also known as Larra , is a Spanish football player who is under contract with the first division club Athletic Bilbao . The winger has been in action for the unrecognized Basque selection since May 2019 .

Born in the Basque city ​​of Bilbao , Gaizka Larrazabal played in the youth teams of Lauro Ikastola CF and Danok Bat CF. In the latter, he showed impressive performances in the junior league and aroused the interest of larger clubs. On June 3, 2016, he signed with SD Zamudio , which had been promoted to Segunda División B in the 2015/16 preseason . On August 27, 2016 (2nd matchday) he made his debut in the 3-1 home defeat against Athletic Bilbao B in the third-highest Spanish division when he came on for Ander Garmendia at half-time and took a penalty later in the game . In November 2016 he established himself as a regular player and on December 10, 2016 (18th matchday) he scored his first goal in a 3-1 home win against CD Toledo . In the further course of the season the winger got two more goals and a total of 29 league games, but rose with Zamudio as bottom of the table in the fourth-class Tercera Division .

Larrazabal's move to Athletic Bilbao was announced on April 5, 2017 and he entered into a two-year contract there on July 1. There he was assigned to the reserve and began the season there as a rotation player. In November 2017 he established himself in the starting line-up and on December 9 (18th matchday) he scored for the reserve for the first time in a 2-0 home win against the B-team of CA Osasuna . In this 2017/18 season he scored two goals in 32 league appearances and prepared five more goals. In the next 2018/19 season he made his breakthrough in the third division and collected 17 goals (9 goals and eight assists) in 32 league games.

On May 14, 2019, Larrazabal signed a new two-year contract with the Leones and was promoted to the first team. On August 24, 2019 (2nd matchday) he made his debut in the top Spanish league in a 1-1 draw against Getafe FC when he came on as a substitute for the injured Óscar de Marcos shortly before half-time . In the following months he was used sporadically by head coach Gaizka Garitano and in total he played ten league games in this 2019/20 season.

National team

Gaizka Larrazabal made his debut on May 30, 2019 in a 0-0 draw against Panama in the unrecognized Basque selection .

Personal

Larrazabal's father Aitor is considered to be one of Athletic Bilbao's greatest players. Between 1990 and 2004 he was regularly in his traditional position of left full defense and played over 400 competitive games during this time. He later coached various Basque clubs and met his son as the coach of the SD Amorebieta in November 2016 and in April 2014, who in turn was at the service of the SD Zamudio. Also in the next season 2017/18 both met as opponents. Gaizka played for Athletic Bilbao B and Aitor coached Barakaldo CF in this . On his debut for Bilbao's first team, Gaizka played with Aritz Aduriz , who had played with his father 17 years earlier.
