Unai Simón Mendibil (born June 11, 1997 in Vitoria-Gasteiz ) is a Spanish football goalkeeper .
Career
society
Simón joined the youth team at Athletic Bilbao in 2011 from the CD Aurrerá de Vitoria . In December 2014 he played against the CD Berio FT for the first time for the CD Baskonia farm team in the Tercera División . In January 2015 he was against the SD Amorebieta for the first time in the squad of the B-team of Bilbao. With Bilbao B, he was promoted to the Segunda División in 2015 . In the 2015/16 season, however, he did not play for Bilbao B.
After relegation to the third division, he made his debut in August 2016 against UD Socuéllamos for the B-team of Athletic Bilbao. In January 2017, he was in the Basque first team for the first time against FC Barcelona .
In July 2018 Simón was awarded to the second division club FC Elche . Before the start of the season, he was ordered back from Bilbao in August 2018. In the same month he made his debut for Bilbao in the Primera División when he started against CD Leganés on matchday one of the 2018/19 season.
National team
Simón has already played for various Spanish youth national teams. With the U-19 team , he took part in the European Championship in 2015 and became European champion. However, he was not used in any game during the tournament.
In September 2017, Simón made his debut in a friendly against Italy for the Spanish U-21s .
