The First Canadian Army ( German  First Canadian Army ) was an allied Canadian military formation in Europe during the Second World War . It was formed in Great Britain in early 1942.

Military operations

The army took part in Allied fighting in Normandy in July 1944 . After the missions in France, she took part in further military operations in Belgium , the Netherlands and Germany until the end of the war. These included operations such as:

Commander in chief

  • Lieutenant General Andrew McNaughton (April 1942 to December 1943)
  • Lieutenant General Kenneth Stuart (entrusted with the leadership; December 1943 to March 1944)
  • General Henry Crerar (March 1944 to July 1945)
  • Lieutenant General Guy Simonds (deputy; September to November 1944)
