The First Division 1973/74 was the 71st season of the top Belgian division in men's football . It began on August 31, 1973 and ended on May 5, 1974.

mode

The 16 teams played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first and a second round. The two bottom of the table played in a relegation round with the fourth and fifth of the second division against relegation.

The URBSFA decided to increase the first division to 18 clubs. The transition was made in three phases. 1974/75 had to be played with 20 clubs, 1975/76 with 19 clubs and 1976/77 with 18 clubs.
