Marcin Wasilewski (born June 9, 1980 in Krakow , Poland ) is a Polish football player .

career

Club career

Wasilewski (nicknamed "Robocop" because of his tough style of play) began his career at Hutnik Krakow . In 2000 he moved to Śląsk Wrocław , who at that time had been promoted to the Ekstraklasa . After relegation from the first division in 2002, he moved to league rivals Wisła Płock .

After the team had achieved the best result in the club's history with fourth place in 2005, Wasilewski signed with Amica Wronki . After the club merged with Lech Posen in 2006 , he stayed with the merged club for half a year before moving to the first division at RSC Anderlecht in Belgium for 800,000 euros during the winter break .

In the league game between RSC Anderlecht and Standard Liège on August 30, 2009 Wasilewski was fouled by his opponent Axel Witsel and suffered a double open leg fracture. The foul drew considerable criticism; Among other things, death threats were made against Witsel.

National team

Wasilewski made his debut in the Polish national team on November 20, 2002 in the game against Denmark . On December 6, 2006, he scored his first goal in a 5-2 win against the United Arab Emirates for a 1-0 lead. Wasilewski was in the squad of the Polish national team at both the European Championship 2008 and the European Championship 2012 . He has not been invited to international matches since the end of 2013.

Private

Wasilewski's brother Paweł is also a professional footballer and played for Polish second division club Kmita Zabierzów and Stal Stalowa Wola , among others .
