Association of Carinthian Citizens' Guards and Rifle Guard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Association of Carinthian Citizens' Guards and Rifle Guard , nine Carinthian so-called gardens are united to form a regional association. The main task of the garden is to provide an additional eye-catcher for the audience at local traditional events in colorful, military-historical costumes, which are often pure fantasy uniforms with no historical background. In addition, these groups, organized in clubs, often have their own brass band .

Chronicle of the regional association

On July 10, 1955, the first shooting meeting of the Carinthian Garden took place in Himmelberg. The rifle guards from Metnitz, Millstatt, Steinfeld and Murau could be welcomed at this first "Schützenfest".

The gardens from Metnitz, Millstatt, Steinfeld and Himmelberg were those Carinthian gardens that were loosely connected and visited each other until the "Carinthian Citizens' Guard Association" was founded in 1962. In 1959, the preparatory work and discussions for the establishment of the Carinthian Citizens Guard Association began. In April 1962, the merger of all Carinthian civic and rifle guards into a regional association was implemented. Hans Staunig from Metnitz and Wolfgang Embacher from Himmelberg played a key role in the establishment of the company.

Founding chairman Hans Staunig chaired the regional association for almost twenty years . The honorary citizen of the community of Himmelberg and now honorary chairman of the uniformed rifle guard in Himmelberg, Rudolf Natmeßnig, took over as Staunig's successor in 1981 and held this position until 2002.

Little by little, other guards joined the Carinthian Citizens Guard Association. In 1985 the Carinthian Citizens 'Guard Association was renamed the "Association of Carinthian Citizens' Guard and Rifle Guard". Heinz Ellersdorfer led the regional association with over 600 members from 2002 to the beginning of 2012. On January 14, 2012 Ellersdorfer handed over the "chief post" to 52-year-old Manfred Berger from Himmelberg.
