Career

society

Edmond Tapsoba began his career in the youth of Salitas FC and US Ouagadougou in his hometown. In 2017 he took the step abroad and moved to Portugal to the Youth des Leixões SC , for which he was active for seven months. At the end of January 2018, he moved within the country to the U19 of Vitória Guimarães , for whom he played until the middle of the year. Following his youth, the club took him over to the second team, which played in the second-rate Segunda League . There he had already been in the squad twice after his move to the U19s, but was not used. In the 2018/19 season that has just begun , Tapsoba made his debut in the men's field when he was on the starting line-up on matchday one in the 0-1 home defeat against CD Cova da Piedade and was used throughout the game. Tapsoba worked out a regular place right at the beginning of the season and was only not used in 4 of 34 games. Although he was as a central defender with seven goals scored the second most successful shooter of the club at the end of the season, this could not prevent relegation to the third division; Vitória Guimarães B finished the season bottom of the table.

After the relegation of the second team and with the start of the 2019/20 season, Tapsoba moved up into the first team's squad. For this he had already been in the matchday squad twice in the preseason and was not used. Again he managed to earn a regular place at the beginning of the season. In the first game in the 1-1 draw against Boavista Porto , he played from the start and in the 16th minute prepared the opening goal for his team through Davidson . In his next game against FC Porto , he committed an emergency brake in the first minute of the game and was given a red card . The game ended Vitória Guimarães after another dismissal to ninth and lost 0-3; Tapsoba has been suspended for one game. Even after the suspension, Tapsoba defended his regular place and was again dangerous for goals. By January 2020 he played a total of 32 games and achieved ten points scorer (nine goals, one assist).

On January 31, 2020, Tapsoba moved to Germany in the Bundesliga for Bayer 04 Leverkusen . He was given a five and a half year contract until June 30, 2025. He made his debut for the Werkself in the third possible game after his move; On February 8, in the 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund , Tapsoba was in the starting line-up and was used for the entire game in the BayArena . As in the teams before, Tapsoba immediately achieved a regular place in the defense in Leverkusen. After eight more games, professional football nationally and internationally came to a standstill in March due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and your individual situation in Germany . Shortly after the interruption began, his head coach Peter Bosz said in an interview with the Dutch daily AD that Tapsoba and four other players in the squad would have a guaranteed regular seat if the season continued.
