Lucas Nicolás Alario (born October 8, 1992 in Tostado ) is an Argentine football player . He has been playing for German Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen since the 2017/18 season .

Club career

Beginnings at home

Lucas Alario had played in the youth team of San Lorenzo de Tostado in his hometown for three years from 2007 and switched to that of CA Colón in 2010 , where he was accepted into the first team in 2011. In this he made his debut in a competitive game on June 11, 2011 when he was substituted on in the league game against Arsenal de Sarandí . By 2015 he played in 57 other league games for the club and scored twelve goals.

In mid-2015, he moved to River Plate . There he played 46 games in three seasons and scored 22 goals.

In an interview at the end of August 2017, Alario said he was interested in an arrangement with German Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen . On August 22nd, the club had already made an offer of 14 million euros plus bonus payments to River Plate. River Plate published a document on August 28th, which is addressed to the Leverkusen club management - and for information to UEFA , CONMEBOL and the Argentine and German associations - in which the Bayer 04 Leverkusen club calls for further steps to commit Alario Leverkusen would refrain immediately. Alario, without the knowledge of the association, filed a medical examination in the presence of the Germans responsible. If the Germans fail to comply, River Plate will consider bringing the matter to FIFA . According to the club, the contract of a player who plays for a club whose national league season has already started may not be unilaterally terminated. Bayer 04 Leverkusen denied illegal behavior. Two days after the letter was published, Alario had himself photographed in and with a Bayer 04 Leverkusen jersey - which shows the Alario logo and a shirt number that was not assigned in Leverkusen at the time.

On the following day, Bayer 04 Leverkusen published a report according to which Alario had drawn the release clause agreed in his contract with River Plate and the transfer fee - the equivalent of around EUR 23.8 million - had been transferred. Alario is thus without a contract and is waiting for a license to play, which the Argentine association must issue. River Plate responded with a statement in early September stating that the club refused to accept the payment. The Argentine federation could therefore not give approval for the transfer and also support the statement that the Germans had violated the rules set by FIFA. Bayer 04 Leverkusen, for their part, published a notice on September 8th, according to which an accelerated procedure had been initiated at FIFA, through which one could instead obtain the right to play for Alario. Alario had already taken part in Leverkusen's training for the first time three days earlier.

FIFA confirmed Bayer 04 Leverkusen on September 21, 2017 by judging the conduct of River Plate and the Argentine Association to be illegal. At the same time, the world association issued an immediately valid game permit for Alario, who signed a contract in Leverkusen until the end of June 2022.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Just three days after his contract came into force in Leverkusen, Alario made his competitive debut for the club in the league game against Hamburger SV in the starting lineup. In the 3-0 win he took part in the last two goals, scoring the Leverkusen second goal in the 23rd minute of the game and preparing the final score through Kevin Volland . After 86 minutes he was substituted for Joel Pohjanpalo . In total, Alario made 26 appearances for the club in the 2017/18 season, including 16 goals for his team, including ten goals scored by himself.

National team

Alario was in the Argentine national team for the first time in September 2016 and made his debut against Uruguay on September 2 with a substitution. More than 26 months after his last game in June 2017, Alario made his comeback in the Argentine national team in early September 2019 with a 0-0 substitution in a friendly in Chile .

Personal

Alario was born in Tostado , capital of the Nueve de Julio department in the province of Santa Fe , in October 1992 . In Argentina it is nicknamed El Pipa , which is generally associated with the gun . He himself traces the nickname back to his time at the CA Colón, where he understands the name as the pipe because his nose reminded different people of a pipe shape there. He sees himself as a supporter of the Boca Juniors , with whom his former club River Plate has a strong local rivalry .
