Nadiem Amiri (born October 27, 1996 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German - Afghan soccer player . He is under contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and also plays for the German national team . He is mainly used as an attacking midfielder.

Amiri began his career in the youth of Ludwigshafener SC . He moved to SV Waldhof Mannheim via 1. FC Kaiserslautern . In 2012 he moved to the U17 of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . There he scored two goals in 25 appearances. A year later, due to age, he was promoted to the U19. There he completed 21 games with three goals. For the 2014/15 season he signed a contract extension until summer 2018 and at the same time a professional contract for the Bundesliga team at TSG Hoffenheim. However, he should first be used primarily in the second team in the Regionalliga Südwest .

On February 7, 2015, Amiri made his professional debut on the 20th match day of the 2014/15 Bundesliga season in the Kraichgauer's 3-0 defeat against VfL Wolfsburg . On the 14th matchday of the following season 2015/16 , November 28, 2015, Amiri scored his first professional goal in a 3: 3 game against Borussia Mönchengladbach . He prepared the other two goals for TSG Hoffenheim in this game.

On June 12, 2017, Amiri extended his contract term with TSG early to 2020.

For the 2019/20 season, Amiri switched to league competitor Bayer 04 Leverkusen and received a contract with a term of five years.

Between 2013 and 2014 Amiri played eight games for Germany's U18 national team , scoring two goals. For the U19 national team he made 13 appearances with three goals scored. At the U21 European Championship 2017 in Poland , Amiri was used in four of the five games and finally won the title with Germany. He also scored a goal in the 3-0 victory in the group game against Denmark on June 21, 2017.

Until his first competitive game for the German A selection in October 2019, Amiri was also eligible to play for the national team of Afghanistan due to the origin of his parents . In October 2019, national coach Joachim Löw nominated the midfielder for the friendly against Argentina and the European Championship qualifier in Estonia . In the international game against Argentina, Amiri came into play for Julian Brandt in the 66th minute of play, making him the 104th international debutant under Löw. Amiri played his first competitive game for Germany against Estonia.

Amiri's parents fled to the Federal Republic of Germany from Afghanistan in the 1980s as part of the Soviet intervention . His cousin Zubayr Amiri has played for the Hessen division SC Hessen Dreieich since 2014 and is also an Afghan national player . His older brother Nauwid also plays football, but never made it beyond the regional league.
