Lennart Grill (born January 25, 1999 in Idar-Oberstein ) is a German football goalkeeper who has been a young German national goalkeeper since 2014.
He has been under contract with Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen since the 2020/21 season .
Career
society
As a teenager, Grill was active in his home country at SC Idar-Oberstein and in a youth game community of SpVgg Nahbollenbach and Bollenbacher SV and in 2013 switched to the youth training center of 1. FSV Mainz 05 .
For the 2016/17 season he moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern , where he was the first goalkeeper of the A-youth team for two years. In his first season he and his team were runner-up in the A-Junior Bundesliga . In 2018, Grill and the team reached the final of the DFB Junior Club Cup , in which they lost 1: 2 to SC Freiburg . During this time, he already made a few appearances for the second team of the FCK in the regional and then in the major league and was on October 17, 2016 for the first time as a substitute goalkeeper in the matchday squad of the second division team .
After the professional team was relegated to the 3rd division in 2018, Grill became a substitute goalkeeper behind Jan-Ole Sievers . In the association cup game against his home club SC Idar-Oberstein, he completed the first competitive game for the first team of the red devils . After Sievers suffered an injury, the experienced third goalkeeper Wolfgang Hesl was initially preferred. After the winter break, Grill was declared a regular goalkeeper by the new head coach Sascha Hildmann and won the Southwest Cup with the team in spring 2019 . In 2019/20 , nothing changed in his status as number 1; Until the forced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the goalkeeper stood between the posts in all competitive games for the full playing time. After the resumption of play, Grill completed another six league games, two of which were clear, and had to be represented once by Avdo Spahić due to a yellow card suspension . From matchday 34, Spahić moved firmly between the posts and Grill left Kaiserslautern prematurely in two remaining games, as his contract ended on June 30, 2020.
For the 2020/21 season, Grill moved to the Bundesliga at Bayer 04 Leverkusen ; In April 2020 he signed a contract that runs until 2024.
Youth national team
Grill played in the German national teams U16 to U19; He took part in the U17 Euro 2016 in Azerbaijan , where he came on as a substitute in the semi-finals against Spain, which was lost 2-1.
In April 2019 he took part in a DFB elite goalkeeping course in Bad Gögging under the direction of national goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke as the goalkeeper of the German U21s . It was used for the first time in September of that year.
