The FC Amberg is an association of Amberg in the Upper Palatinate , which currently plays in the district league Oberpfalz Nord.
history
After the insolvency of the Bayern league club 1. FC Amberg in the summer of 1995, the then football department manager Werner Aichner brought the club's approximately 200 youth players, who also played with the A and B youth teams in the Bayern league, to TV 1861 Amberg. Two years later the football department was renamed FC Amberg .
From 1998 to 2003 the club got five promotions from the A-class to the regional middle league (fifth class). After relegation in 2004 and immediate resurgence, FC Amberg played in the regional league from 2005 to 2011. In 2007 the team became Bavarian indoor champions. After relegation in 2011, the club secured the championship in the Oberpfalz regional league in the 2011/12 season and, thanks to the extended right of promotion as part of the division reform of the Bavarian Football Association, rose to the Bayernliga Nord . In the 2012/13 season they were able to take 4th place and thus only just missed the relegation to the Bavarian regional league, as the second-placed SpVgg Jahn Forchheim did not have a license for the regional league and thus TSV Großbardorf, tied on points with the FCA, because of the better direct comparison entered the relegation. In the 2013/14 season, the Ambergers were also 4th and again just failed due to the relegation. In the 2014/15 season they finished 2nd behind champion Viktoria Aschaffenburg and were thus able to secure their place in the relegation to the Regionalliga Bayern. Although the Kickers Würzburg were promoted to the 3rd division, only one place was free in the regional league for the 2015/16 season, as SSV Jahn Regensburg and SpVgg Unterhaching were relegated. In the first round of relegation, they just beat SV Heimstetten (1-0 and 0-0) and in the second round they met VfR Garching , who clearly beat FC Pipinsried in round 1 . They also survived the second relegation round without conceding a goal (2: 0 and 0: 1) and thus rose to the Regionalliga Bayern .
After just one season, FC Amberg was relegated to the Bayern League again in 2016, and after relegation in 2018 it was decided not to play in the regional league . The first team will therefore play in the seventh-class district league Oberpfalz Nord in 2019/20.
